Abstract: For simulating the phenom enon of border strip irrigation a rigorous num erical mod el is presented. The submodel describing unsteady shallow water flow is based on the Saint-Venant equations using an unconditionally stable method of characteristics for its solution. The subsurface model is based on a quasianalytical solution of the unsaturated flow equation. The model is tested against experimental data obtained from laboratory-and field experiments.
