Abstract: Recent investigations by the Water Resources Commission of New South Wales have located an extensive aquifer system within unconsolidated sediments between Burreu Junction and Narrabri. This paper outlines the hydrogeological framework within which the groundwater occurs, the sources of groundwater recharge and the hydrochemical changes which occur along the groundwater flow paths and examines the potential for artificial recharge of the groundwater system using surplus flow from the Namoi River.
