Abstract: A method is described for estimating the flow from the mound springs of the Great Artesian Basin, central Australia. The app lication of a w ell known technique for measuring discharge using slug injections of a fluorescent dye is discussed w ith reference to very low flow s of artesian groundwater, and results are presented. It is demon strated that reliable estimates of flow can be obtained from very sma ll injections of Rhodamine WT dye and fluorometric analysis of samples collected downstream from the injection site.
