Abstract: A theory ls presented for predicting equilibrium alternate bar height under the concept that the formation of equllibrium bar is due to non-linear relation between bedform and sediment discharge. linear solution of flow is obtained I means of perturbation method. Nonlineality between flow and sediment discharge is related by bed load equations derived by considering longitudinal and lateral bed slopes. The theory is found to provide a good explanation for the flow, and evolutional and equilibrium bar formation.
