Abstract: A method is developed for generating numerlcal schemes for the solution of hydraulic equations, and is applied to two formulations of the one - dimensional equations for unsteady open-channel flow. The schemes, seem to offer a number of advantages over existing methods, and are simply implemented. A novel feature is. that the time- stepping schemes are independent of the method of interpolation along the channel, for which any method can be used, leading to the abllity to treat irregular channels and the propagation of bores.
