Abstract: A two dimens ional depth-averaged mathematical model for simulating the flow field as well as pol- lutant spreading in meandering channels is presented in this paper. The influence of the channel cur- vature on the flow field is accounted for by calculating the cross-stream variation of the longi tudinal pressure gradient. The lateral dispersion, which is in meandering channels much larger than the' turbul ent diffusion, is accounted for by an empirical relation developed from the three -dimens ional computations and. laboratory mea surements. Computations of the flow field and tracer spreading in two meandering channels are presented and shown to be in fairly good agreement with the measurements.
