Abstract: A numerical model is developed to simulate the unsteady hydrodynamics and water quality in a river-estuarine system consisting of main trunk and tr ibutaries. The hydraulic submodel uses the linear Preissmann implicit scheme and generates hydrodynamic transport regime for the, water. quality submodel. The water quality submodel employs the finite section method (essentially, the finite difference scheme). This model is applied to the Tanshui River system located in northern Taiwan. Favorable comparison between. the calculated results and field data in both hydraulics and water quality shows. the utilityof a hydraulic suo- model for simulating the unsteady distribution of pollutant concentrations in a complex river-estuarine system.
