Abstract: Water supply to the towns of Bandung and Yogyakarta in Java, Indonesia are examined. The methods of obtaining and treating the water are conventional. However, some unusual methods of distribution are accepted. Environmental arrangements of the treatment works in Bandung are satisfactory while those in Yogyakaryta leave room for improvement. Provision of sanitation for the population is attempted by the construction of "bath houses" but would need considerable further expansion to solve a serious def iciency. Australia gives extensive technical and financial assistance for water supply and sanitation to Indonesia through an advisory team of engineers and for specific projects designed and constructed by Australian consulting engineers in various population centres throughout the Archipelago.
