Abstract: A barotropic numerical model for calculating unsteady 2-dimensional vertically discretized suspended sediment concentration distri butions is presented. Numerical aspects of the solution techni que intended to reduce numerical diffusion are di scussed. Calculations of a turbidity marimum in a schematized estuary illustrate the sensitivity of the model results to numerical as rell as physical paraneters such as river discharge, location of sedinent source, stratification and tidal motion.
