Abstract: The accuracy in Eulerian and Langrangian measurements of velocity in a river is the subject of this study. It is firstly discussed based on the turbulence theory and the experimental data previously collected on the turbulence intensity, Eulerian mean time scale and Lagrangian mean time scale. The relations of the accuracy to the averaging time thus obtained are then attested using a propellar type flowmeter or a float rod. As a result, this paper propose a method to obtain an averaging time which is necessary to satisfy a given accuracy. In case of measurements using a float rod, an averaging time corresponds to the traveling distance of a float rod.
