Abstract: It is nearly impossible to collect sufficient data describing the spatial flow field of the inflow region of a tributary of a lake by conventional measurement methods. Two methods recently derived are pre-sented which facilitate field measurements in this flow region. One of these methods determines the path of drogues floating on the surface preferably used to calculate the flow distribution in surface jets. The other one is the detection of water bodies of different physical properties by echo sounding. In combina-tion with conventional velocity profiling by recording current meters a less time-consuming method to iden-tify an immersed water jet in site has been found.
