Abstract: Measurements were performed on unsteaciy two-phase flow initiated by pneumatic seavenging of a 5 km sewage pipe. In an attempt to gener. lize the results and to provide. a tool for the dimensioning of scavenging equipment the measurements were compared with simulation runs based on a newly developed numerical model. It is concluded that the model satisfactorily describes the physical process for a sufficiently long period of time if the initial state of a sewer can be determined.
