Abstract: This review is written with the aim of complement-ing the oral Congress presentation and,as such,constitutes a brief summary of the material thatwi1l form the basis of the General Report toCongress on the sub-theme manuscripts.The reportprimarily seeks to provide a summary of the sub-ject matter of each paper,to introduce aspects ofthe material that warrant discussion,to drawattention to specific shortcomings and to attemptan overall synthesis of the six contributions.Some of the manuscripts contain frequent spellingand typographical errors and omissions;however,these are often too numerous to list and consequ-ent1y are not comented upon.The omission ofsuch detailed comments should not be assumed toindicate that a paper is satisfactory in this area,It should be emphasized that this report is intend-ed to present a 'global'view of the sub-themematerial and in no way should be considered as analternative to a careful reading of the sourcemanuscripts.
