Abstract: The papers to be presented in this sesslon givesome indication of the vast range of processes andphenomena which determine nature and hydraulic be-haviour of lakes and reservoirs.Processes whichaffect water motion and the distributions of heatand material substances in the water-column havebeen recently reviewed by Imberger and Hamblin(1982)who used scaling arguments to parameterisemany of the possible interactfons.Their paramet-erisation aids identifieatfon of the likelydominant process controlling water movement inlakes and reservolrs.
