Abstract: Hydraulic structures may be blocked and adversely impacted by floating debris and sediments. In this contribution, the impact of debris on hydraulic structures is reviewed in an Australian context. Specifically, the impact of debris on road crossings, dam spillways and the rapid siltation of reservoirs in Australia is discussed. The study is based upon a series of field observations over the past 35 years combined with a review of the literature.
