Keywords: Retention sponge function valorization GIS-based tool hydrological modelling

Abstract: The valorization method and the FroGIS tool, which is GIS-based, are introduced in this paper. This tool has been developed to enhance our understanding of catchment characteristics and to plan measures aimed at increasing hydrological retention, often referred to as the sponge function. While it is also possible to utilize hydrological models for this purpose, these models tend to be more expensive and require a higher level of expertise from the user. The benefits of hydrological modeling become evident when assessing impacts. However, monitoring ultimately provides the most accurate answers, as we do not have all hydrological characteristics available in advance.
