Abstract: This paper investigates the local scour and flow fields around three types of spur dikes; T-shaped, L-shaped, and rectangular. The experiments and simulations were conducted using three spur dikes with a length of 20 cm under clear water conditions. The T-shaped spur dike demonstrates a scour reduction of 11% and 8% compared to the rectangular and L-shaped dikes, respectively. The study compared scour depths and sediment bed morphologies at equilibrium for the different spur dike shapes. Additionally, the flow vector fields and streamlines around the three types of spur dikes were studied, showing that the T-shaped spur dike exhibits more streamlined flow and a smaller core vortex compared to the others.
