Abstract: This work deals with the prediction of resistance to flow due to the meandering of a stream. The two most prominent methods for the calculation of the flow resistance factor are analyzed and evaluated against laboratory data produced by different authors in sine-generated streams. It is concluded that both methods strongly underestimate the flow resistance, leading to significant overestimations of streamflow. This highlights the importance of better understanding the physics behind energy losses due to stream meandering and to develop more accurate methods of predicting the flow resistance factor.
