Keywords: WDNs inflow time series visibility domain classification

Abstract: We here study the visibility strategy to classify inflow data in water distribution networks (WDNs). Visibility strategy has recently gained attention for time series analysis. It is based on the concept of "geometric visibility" between values within the series. The yearly inflow data have been analyzed by means of a standard visibility algorithm to assess the capability of separating the different daily inflow of weeks (i. e., five ferial days, Saturday and Sunday) using a single source WDN in Apulia. In the visibility domain ferial days, Saturday and Sunday result better separated with respect to the time domain as demonstrated by the Pearson’s correlation coefficients. Therefore, the visibility domain is promising to classify the WDNs daily inflow, and we can argue that this could be useful to analyze each water source of a more complex system.
