Keywords: 3D reconstruction structure from motion hydraulic experiment non-intrusive measurement
Abstract: This study investigates the application of 3D reconstruction technology, specifically structure from motion and multi-view stereo techniques, for non-intrusive measurements in hydraulic experiments for coastal engineering research. Two common experimental setups are examined: bathymetric changes caused by the reflective waves of a submerged breakwater and wave height measurements from rockslide-generated waves. The measurements obtained from the 3D reconstruction are compared with those obtained using traditional instruments, including LiDAR and capacitance wave gauges. The results demonstrate that the 3D reconstruction displays promising agreement with these instruments and captures both spatial and temporal variations. Despite these advantages, challenges remain in laboratory settings, including the requirement for significant computational resources. Overall, this approach provides an alternative to traditional methods and offers additional advantages.
