Abstract: Jets impinging in free surface are often found in Civil Engineering applications. From energy dissipation in hydraulic structures to the kitchen sink it is possible to observe these flows in action. These flows have interesting features, namely the entrainment of air into the water, the generation of 3D flow structures, that will induce flow patterns inside the stilling basin. In this paper, by means of fast acquisition techniques, we address the flow patterns of the jet as it pierces through the free surface.
