Abstract: To understand hydrological and hydraulic features in basins, it is important to measure both river stage and flow discharge. In Japan, a lot of observed station of the river stage is located nationwide, but there are relatively few stations of the flow discharge. In this study, we proposed a simple method for measuring river discharge based on video camara and image analysis in which STIV (space-time image velocimetry) is used to measure water surface velocity. For reducing measurement load for image analysis, we introduced a SfM (structure from motion) to simplify the measurement of reference points from photos at multiple points. We adopted this method to the river-discharge measurement in the Ichinomiya River in Chiba Prefecture, Japan. As a result, we can obtain the surface flow velocities and the flow discharge. The accuracy of these observed hydraulics values is generally good.
