Abstract: The study of wave-vegetation interactions is a growing area in fluid mechanics and ecoengineering, with a particular focus on how vegetation in coastal environments influences wave attenuation and energy dissipation. Over the last few decades, mangrove ecosystems have become increasingly important as coastal protection tools due to their ability to reduce waves and promote sediment accumulation, making them effective defenses against climate change impacts. However, over the past 50 years, approximately 30% of the world's mangroves have been lost, significantly diminishing their capacity to reduce flood risks. A growing trend is to integrate ecological and engineering perspectives that blend vegetation with traditional engineering.
