Abstract: Recently, the serious inundation damage due to local heavy rain has increased. This study treated the inundation damage due to heavy rain in Kasugai city, Aichi prefecture, Japan in September 20, 2011. In this study, the analysis model for inundation due to heavy rain was developed. The developed analysis model consists of the overland flood flow analysis, the river flow analysis and the sewer flow analysis. The validity of analysis model was shown by comparison between the analysis results and observed data. Moreover, the visualization method of transport of rainwater was developed by using the idea of the T-SAS by Sayama et al. In order to examine the inundation characteristics of the Jizo river basin, the analysis area was divided into left or right bank side area, and the inundation water behavior of each area was examined. It was shown clearly the inundation water behavior of left or right bank side area of the Jizo river basin, e.g. the rainwater in the right bank side area is draining quickly because the gradient of the ground elevation is large. On the other hand, the rainwater in the left bank side area remains. As the analysis results show the detailed inundation behavior of each area of the Jizo river basin, the visualization for transport of rainwater is beneficial and useful for the understanding of the urban inundation due to heavy rain. Moreover, rainfall area affecting inundation were examined by the visualization method.
