Abstract: According to the Dam Operational Improvement and Safety Project (DOISP) report in 2008 and 2014, it was reported that most the lifespan for dead storage of reservoirs in Java Island was reduced excessively because of the increasing sediment yield with time. This paper describes a spatially distributed sediment delivery (SEDD) using the Geographic Information System (GIS) based on Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE), to calculate the mean annual soil loss, which is represented by empirical algorithms and mean annual sediment yield based on measured sedimentation data in the four reservoirs e.g. Selorejo, Wadaslintang, Sempor and Sermo in Java, Indonesia. The method involves spatial discretization of the catchment into homogenous grid cells to capture the catchment heterogeneity. The integrated approach allows for relatively practical and cost-effective estimation of spatially distributed soil erosion, sediment delivery and sediment yield for gauged or ungauged catchments. The results of the study provide the useful tool for evaluating and mapping the distributed sediment yield quantitatively and spatially at a catchment scale on a grid basis at catchment of the reservoir in Java.
