Abstract: Indonesia is a maritime country that has a large marine area and contains a diversity of natural resources of the sea with enormous potential that able to give great benefit value such as marine tourism. Unfortunately, despite substantial function of the coastal ecosystems, human pressures like infrastructure, pollution, overfishing and climate change are threatening the ecosystems in the coastal area. These issues are threatening Kotamadya Pariaman (Pariaman Municipality), located directly adjacent to the Indian Ocean as its border in the western part of the city. Economic valuation provides the monetary value of coastal ecosystems as a decision maker consideration and strategy to maintain and improve the economic value of the coastal area. By doing the economic valuation of the ecosystems, the monetary value of the ecosystems as the assets that need to be preserved and the value will be gone when the ecosystems are no longer exist. Nonetheless, the valuation by using a method is not in accordance with the people preferences and require to be analyzed by considering either the economic valuation result or the people preferences. By processing the primary and secondary data, the economic value and people preferences of the coastal ecosystems are obtained. Therefore, the results could be used as a consideration for the long-term existence of the tourism industry in the coastal zone.
