Abstract: The middle reach of Huaihe River from Wangjiaba to Xiaoliuxiang is the key section for the pollution prevention of Huaihe River basin. The scientific dispatch of the existing sluices dams and other hydraulic engineering is one of the effective ways to restore and improve river water quality. Based on the pollution characteristics of the Huaihe River basin, we took the heavily polluting river network consisting of the mainstream of Huaihe River, Shayinghe River and Guohe River as the research region. Moreover, the work selected the water quality indexes (ammonia-nitrogen and chemical oxygen demand) focused by basins to establish the model of water quantity and quality of river network in the middle reach of Huaihe River with the characteristic of multi-sluices and dams. The result of validation show that the established model can provide precise simulation of hydrodynamics and mobility of pollutants under different regulations of gate dams. The model was applied to study the anti-pollution schedule of the Guohe River pollution incident in 2013, analyzing the response relationship between different gate-dam scheduling schemes and downstream water quality. Besides, the optimum emergency scheduling program was selected to protect drinking-water source in Bengbu. It provides the scientific basis for controlling the scope of accident and reducing the accident loss as much as possible.
