Abstract: The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), founded in 1935, has a committee on Hydraulic Machinery and Systems that advances technology related to steady and unsteady flow characteristics in hydraulic machinery and conduit systems. The committee promotes interaction among machine designers, users, academics, and the broader community by organizing a symposium every two years. An “Asian Working Group” was established to foster exchange and cooperation in the Asian hydraulic machinery industry. With rapid development of water conservancy and hydropower in Asia, hydraulic machinery such as pumps and pump-turbines are widely used, yielding significant scientific and technical achievements. Three prior Asian symposiums were held in Beijing (2017), Busan (2019), and Nepal (2021), with proceedings published in IOP. The 4th symposium (IAHR 2023 Asia Kashgar) follows this tradition, and its proceedings will also be published in IOP.
