Abstract: The study of the fate of tiny particles in turbulent flows is of primary importance for several applications, among which the biodiversity reconstruction in aquatic systems by detecting eDNA traces in water samples. Here we aim at inspecting the influence of particle size on the breakage rate of small aggregates in turbulent flows through a series of computational fluid dynamics analysis. Results show that the particle diameter is correlated with the breakup frequency of brittle light particles.
