Abstract: In recent years, hydropower plants have started to increasingly face a critical challenge: managing sediments transported by the water flowing through the plant. Over time, sediment accumulation reduces available reservoir storage, causes machinery damage due to surface erosion, and may lead to longer operational shutdowns. Inadequate sediment management can also have significant environmental consequences, such as accelerated coastal erosion and disruption of natural habitats, potentially reducing the environmental sustainability of the hydropower sector.
