Abstract: Determining and predicting the service life of prototype hydraulic turbines is still a big challenge with increasing flexibility needs within the power grid. This study shows a real-time health management approach for hydraulic turbines. The approach is categorized in the determination of power plant characteristics, data handling and visual data analysis, all resulting in big amounts of data. For the data handling and visualisation of both simulation and measurement data, a multilevel approach was selected. Exemplary results from a prototype turbine confirmed the applicability of the concept. With this methodology not only the turbine runner itself, but rather almost all key parts within a hydropower plant can be assessed and compared in real-time to each other.
