Abstract: In the present study, we experimentally investigated the characteristics of whirling cavitating vortex which occurs at deep part loads of pump inducer. The phenomenon was somewhat similar to vortex rope in draft tube of hydruturbine, and therefore we discussed the similarity of whirling cavitating vortex to vortex rope considering common and uncommon □low patterns between inside the suction pipe of inducer and inside the draft tube of hydroturbine. Then, we introduced a back□low control device we have developed in our previous study to mitigate the □low instabilities like cavitation surge of pump inducers. It was shown that this device is also useful for suppressing the whirling cavitating vortex.
