Abstract: As the navigability and strategic value of the Arctic shipping routes gradually increase, more polar vessels are traveling to the circumpolar region for scientific research or trade. However, the ice navigation environment is complex. On one hand, the presence of sea ice increases ship resistance, affecting maneuverability and propulsion performance. On the other hand, it leads to higher localized pressure loads on vessels, threatening structural integrity and navigation safety. This study focuses on the SYSU Polar Vessel, a state-of-the-art ice-capable platform designed to support multidisciplinary scientific expeditions in polar regions. Utilizing a GPU-accelerated high-performance parallel computing framework, an SPH-PD coupled model is employed to investigate the ice resistance during its icebreaking navigation. The simulation results are compared and validated against reference data. This investigation aims to elucidate the failure patterns of sea ice and quantify the resulting icebreaking resistance experienced by the vessel.
