Webinar on Numerical Simulation and Field Insights on Mixing Processes in Rivers and Coastal Environments

This webinar orgnized by IAHR/IWA Joint Committee on Outfall Systems, held on 23 September 2025, focused on advances in understanding mixing processes in rivers and coastal environments. Two case studies were presented: the first demonstrated the use of OpenFOAM source codes to simulate gravity currents from desalination outfalls, while the second combined numerical modeling and field data to examine mixing in the North Saskatchewan River, Canada. Together, these studies highlighted how advanced modeling and field insights can support improved water quality management and more effective outfall design.
