Following the 10th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures and a technical excursion, the 9th International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures (IJREWHS 2024) took place on June 20, 2024, at ETH Zurich, Switzerland.
The workshop series, which began with the first edition in Portugal in 2006, provides a platform for young researchers and engineers to exchange ideas on current topics in hydraulic structure engineering. The IJREWHS 2024 focused on hydraulic structure designs, such as weirs, spillways and hydropower tunnels, as well as sediment transport and fish continuity. Additionally, new methodological developments were presented, addressing future challenges such as climate change and flooding.
The workshop offered an opportunity for young researchers and engineers—typically PhD students, but also early-career professionals, public authorities, and industry—to present their ideas, research plans, and preliminary findings in an open, collaborative, and inspiring environment.
