Young Professionals Programme

On the occasion of the 41st IAHR World Congress a variety of activities will be dedicated for young professionals, including mentorship sessions, networking opportunities, and career development activities. These initiatives aim to support and connect the next generation of leaders in water-related fields.

 Programme of activities:

  • Fireside Chats with Water Professionals: Daily sessions from June 24–26, featuring leaders from academia, industry, and consultancy sharing insights into their career paths.

  • Young Water Professionals (YWP) Symposium: On June 24, this symposium provides a platform for emerging professionals to engage with senior experts and discuss current challenges and innovations.

  • SWA YWP Mentorship Graduation Ceremony: Also on June 24, this ceremony celebrates the achievements of participants in the mentorship programme, acknowledging their dedication and progress.

  • Young Professionals Network Night: An evening event on June 24 offering a relaxed environment for networking and building professional relationships.

  • IAHR Mentoring Programme: Opportunities for young professionals and new IAHR members to connect with mentors, facilitating integration into IAHR's technical committees and working groups.

Opening Ceremony Keynote Speakers

The 41st IAHR World Congress, themed “Innovative Water Engineering for Sustainable Development”, will feature distinguished keynote speakers during its opening ceremony on June 23, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at the Singapore EXPO.

1. Bernard KohAssistant Chief Executive, PUB, Singapore

Bernard Koh oversees PUB's Future Systems and Technology cluster, focusing on future-proofing Singapore's water systems through research and development. With extensive experience across the engineering value chain, he has previously managed operations of water treatment plants, desalination facilities, and large infrastructure projects.

2. Prof. Ana DeleticExecutive Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Queensland University of Technology, Australia

Prof. Ana Deletic is a leading expert in urban water management, specializing in stormwater, green treatment technologies, and socio-technical modeling. She has authored approximately 350 publications and supervised 40 PhD students, earning the 2024 IWA/IAHR Career Achievement Award.

3. Mark FletcherGlobal Water Business Leader, Arup, United Kingdom

Mark Fletcher leads Arup's Global Water Business and is recognized for his work in sustainable water management and nature-based solutions. He has contributed to initiatives like the inclusion of Young Water Professionals at Stockholm World Water Week and serves on the organizing committee for the Singapore International Water Week.

High level panels

The High-Level Panels, co-organized with SIWW Spotlight 2025, will take place on June 24th and 25th at the Singapore EXPO Meeting Rooms, Room 1. These sessions are designed for both IAHR and SIWW Spotlight delegates and are eligible for Professional Development Unit (PDU) points.

Panel 1: Water, Cities and Climate – Interconnectedness for a Sustainable Future, Tuesday, 24th June 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

This panel explores how water management intersects with urban planning, transportation, housing, and public health. The focus is on nature-based solutions, resilient infrastructure, and policy frameworks that support climate-adaptive, livable cities.

Panel 2: Flood-Resilient Cities – How Do We Get There?, Tuesday, 24th June 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM

This session addresses how cities can become more resilient to floods and climate extremes through smart infrastructure, urban design, and proactive risk management.

Panel 3: Empowering a Just and Inclusive Energy Transition – The Strategic Role of Hydropower, Wednesday, 25th June 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM

Organized by Itaipu Binacional, this session will explore how hydropower can support an inclusive, low-carbon energy transition. It will present case studies on how hydropower can contribute to urban climate resilience and broader development goals.

Panel 4: From Digital Acceleration to Real-World Impact – Scaling Innovation in Water Engineering, Wednesday, 25th June 11:00 AM – 12:30 AM

Convened by SUEZ, this panel will examine how digital technologies are transforming water engineering, and how to scale these innovations from pilot projects to global applications with tangible impact.
