General Members Assembly and Elections Results!


IAHR General Members Assembly 2025

The General Members Assembly (GMA) of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) took place on Thursday, 26 June 2025, during the 41st IAHR World Congress in Singapore. Held in a hybrid format, the meeting welcomed IAHR members onsite at Room 1, Singapore EXPO, and online from around the world.

Chaired on behalf of IAHR President Prof. Philippe Gourbesville, the Assembly was a key moment to reflect on the Association’s recent achievements, approve key governance updates, and shape the future of IAHR through democratic participation.

 Arthur Thomas Ippen Lecture

The Assembly opened with the prestigious Arthur Thomas Ippen Lecture, which this year was delivered by Prof. Dr Bernhard Vowinckel. His lecture, titled "Small is beautiful: What we can learn from grain-scale processes about sediment transport", reflected on a lifetime of contributions to hydraulic research.

Key agenda items presented and discussed during the session included:

  • Welcome and Introductions

  • Highlights of IAHR activities in 2024/2025

  • Approval of the 2024 Financial Statements

  • Proposed amendments to the Articles of Association, including:

  • Revisions as per the draft deed shared with members.

  • Proposal to authorise notarial staff of Buren N.V. (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) to execute the amendment.

  • IAHR Executive Committee Elections

  • Meeting Closure

 Executive Committee Election Results

IAHR members elected the following individuals to key leadership roles within the Executive Committee:

President: Prof. Philippe Gourbesville

Vice President – Americas: Dr Ana Maria Ferreira da Silva

Vice President – Asia and the Pacific: Prof. Mohamed S. Ghidaoui

Vice President – Europe: Prof. Ioanna Popescu

These elected representatives will lead IAHR into its next chapter, strengthening global collaboration and regional engagement across the hydro-environment community.
