Introduction

We would like to extend the warmest welcome to you for attending the 2nd Webinar of lAHR Working Group on Scour Research.

Scour poses a critical challenge to the stability and scour protection design of hydraulic and coastal structures. Inadequate scour protection measures or misjudgment of scour depth can compromise structural integrity, result in environmental contamination, and cause substantial economic losses. Therefore, research in this field not only offers scientific guidance for the design and maintenance of foundation systems but also contributes to environmental conservation. The growing impacts of climate change have further exposed the vulnerability of engineered structures in dynamic water environments. Consequently, future studies on scour and scour protection around hydraulic and coastal infrastructures under complex hydrodynamic conditions are expected to become increasingly advanced and demanding.

This webinar aims to create a collaborative platform for scientists and engineers to exchange knowledge and build partnerships on key topics in scour research. This session launches a recurring event held every 3-5 months, featuring leading experts, emerging scholars, early-career researchers, and promising PhD students who will share their latest findings, fostering international exchange and collaboration.

We are excited to welcome two distinguished global scholars, their expertise and insights promise an enriching experience for all participants. Each speaker will present for 45 minutes, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The webinar is expected to last 2 hour and 10 minutes, and it will be recorded. A playback video will be made available shortly after the session.

We warmly welcome experts and scholars from various research fields to join this webinar for knowledge sharing and collaboration. We also encourage students and early-career researchers in related fields to participate, fostering exchange and advancing research development in this important area. We also welcome attendees to suggest guest speakers for future sessions.
