The IAHR Hydraulic Structures Technical Committee (HSTC) is pleased to invite proposals to host the 12th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures in 2028.
The International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures (ISHS) is the main event of the HSTC and attracts global interest from both researchers and practitioners. A particular goal of this event is to enable high-quality research exchanges across the broad field of hydraulic structures engineering. In the spirit of previous events, a mix of high-quality technical presentations and keynotes, a technical field tour and the Philip Burgi best paper award are expected to be key features of the ISHS.
It is further requested that the ISHS 2028 host will facilitate the 11th International Junior Researcher and Engineer Workshop on Hydraulic Structures (IJREWHS) as a one-day add on event (not in parallel to ISHS). The IJREWHS is a distinctive and valuable forum bringing together emerging scientists and engineers to exchange ideas on hydraulic structure design, research advancements, and industry solutions in a collegial, non-competitive setting. Its core objective is to foster professional growth, collaboration, and mentorship among early-career engineers and senior experts in the field.
Proposals must be emailed to the HSTC Chair Sean Mulligan (sean.mulligan@vortechws.com) by January 23, 2026. Any further clarifications, for example, details on proposal template and criteria, can be requested from the same contact.
Proposals should take the form of a written submission, prepared in the style preferred by the applicant, and may include relevant supplementary material. The submission must clearly and concisely articulate the proposed plan for hosting ISHS 2028, providing comprehensive information on the following key aspects: proposed venue and dates; links with related events or societies; financial management approach and feasibility; local organization and support; proceedings (process and publication plan); tentative program and technical tour; accommodation; Phil Burgi Award; and willingness to host the IJREWHS as an optional one-day add-on event.
We look forward to receiving your proposal.
