The IAHR Technical Committee on Transient Flows has recently celebrated the 1st IAHR Symposium on Transient Flows in Victoria, Brasil.
The event has been hosted under the the framework of the XXVI Simpósio Brasileiro de Recursos Hídricos, with a local organising committee lead by Prof. Alexandre Kepler Soares, President of the Brazilian Water Resources Association.
Besides the technical presentations, three key notes on "Real-life Applications of Transient Flow Models" by Hanif Chaudhry, "Advances in Two-phase Transient Modeling for Stormwater and Urban Water Systems" by José Vasconcelos and "High-frequency monitoring for anomaly detection in real pressurized systems" by Silvia Meniconi, provided cardinal resarch insights on Transient Flows scope.
The gathering ended up with a productive meeting of the Technical Committee that enabled filling their next 2 years agenda, with promissing ideas and key actions that will be soon announced in their webpage.

During the 41st IAHR World Congress held in Singapore on 21 June 2025, the IAHR Council Meeting officially approved the elevation of the Working Group on Transient Flows into the Technical Committees on Transient Flows.
The Working Group on Transient Flows had been dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in the following domains: transient wave theory in hydro-systems; hydro-system diagnosis using transient waves; wave-structure interaction in hydro-systems; geysers in storm-water and combined sewer systems; computational modelling of transient flows (in closed or open conduits); transient-turbulent flows (in closed or open conduits); field work including case studies, practical applications, and projects.
The Technical Committee on Transient Flows will continue to operate in accordance with the IAHR Constitution and Bylaws and, effective today, under the leadership of the incoming Chair, Dr. David Ferras, together with Past Chair Prof. Silvia Meniconi and the current leadership team. The open call for a co-chair and three additional leadership positions remains open until 15 December 2025.
