
The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief (EiC) of Journal of Applied Water Engineering. The appointment will be for a three-year term, beginning in spring 2026.
JAWER is a peer-reviewed journal publishing applied engineering papers and case studies on all aspects of hydro-environment engineering.
Aims and Scope of the Journal of Applied Water Engineering
JAWER articles provide directly applicable solutions to water engineering problems within the whole hydrosphere (rivers, lakes groundwater, estuaries, coastal and marine waters) covering areas such as:
integrated water resources management and catchment hydraulics
measures to adapt water resource systems and hydraulic structures to climate change
modelling environmental problems in rivers, lakes and catchments
water-energy nexus
hydraulic machinery and structures
hydraulics applied to water supply, treatment and drainage systems (including outfalls)
water quality, security and governance in an engineering context
environmental monitoring
maritime hydraulics
ecohydraulics
flood risk modelling and management
water related hazards
Particular emphasis is given to reproducible, innovative methods specifically showcasing studies on interfacing technology-based engineering solutions within the hydro-environment and its ecological values and services which are applicable to a global audience.
Peer Review: All submitted manuscripts are subject to initial appraisal by the Editors, and, if found suitable for further consideration, to peer review by independent, anonymous expert referees. All peer review is single anonymized and submission is online via ScholarOne Manuscripts.

Role and Responsibilities of the Editor in Chief
The Editor-in-Chief serves as the scientific leader of JAWER, working closely with Associate Editors, reviewers, authors, and the publisher (Taylor & Francis) and aligning the strategy with IAHR goals. Responsibilities include:
Setting the editorial direction and vision for the journal in collaboration with IAHR Publications Committee
Ensuring the quality, rigor, and timeliness of the peer-review process
Promoting the journal to attract high-quality submissions
Building and supporting a diverse editorial board
Engaging with the global water engineering community
Collaborating with the publisher on journal operations and visibility
Required Qualifications
Applicants must demonstrate:
A clear vision, commitment, and roadmap for attracting top-quality submissions and enhancing journal prestige, visibility, and peer review
A distinguished international reputation in water engineering, with a strong record of high-impact publications
A thorough understanding of JAWER’s mission, scope, audience, and standards for excellence
Proven engagement with the broader water engineering community
Broad interdisciplinary knowledge relevant to the field
