Overview
W.A.T.E.R. (Workshop on Advanced measurement Techniques and Experimental Research) is an initiative launched in 2016 in collaboration with the Experimental Methods and Instrumentation (EMI) Committee. The W.A.T.E.R. has been held annually since its inception, and is the flagship event of the EMI.
The workshop provides hands‐on training in advanced measurement techniques and experimental research with a focus on fluid mechanics and hydraulics. Beyond training, W.A.T.E.R. also serves as a dynamic forum for researchers, practitioners, and instrument manufacturers to exchange knowledge, ideas, and best practices. Over the years, W.A.T.E.R. has earned international recognition as a leading platform for training in cutting-edge experimental methods and instrumentation. Further information is available here.
Building on this success, we invite interested institutions and individuals to submit proposals to host the 11th W.A.T.E.R.
Motivation for hosting the workshop
Available laboratory/field equipment and proposed experimental setups
Distinct competencies that enhance the training (e.g., field measurement, numerical modeling integration, novel sensors, etc.)
Target participant number and proposed fee structure
Host institution and local organizing team
Proposed venue and facilities
Proposed dates
All submissions will be evaluated based on the following criteria:
Program quality
Number and quality of experimental setups and practical exercises
Availability and quality of instrumentation (local or external)
Participation
Expected total number of participants
Expected number of local participants
Organizational capacity
Number of committed organizers, instructors, and technical staff
Participation of local representatives in recent W.A.T.E.R. editions and familiarity with the workshop format
Balance between proposed fees and included services
Prospective organizers are strongly encouraged to attend the upcoming 10th edition (August 31 - September 4 2026, Stuttgart, Germany) to experience the W.A.T.E.R. firsthand and gain practical insights into its organization.
