Aim and Scope
This Special Article Collection will be launched following the 11th International Symposium on Hydraulic Structures, to take place in Chengdu, China, from 29 June to 2 July 2026 (ISHS2026). Selected authors of the most outstanding contributions will be invited to extend and enhance their work for submission to the Journal of Hydraulic Research (JHR). In line with JHR guidelines, the following types of submissions will be considered: State-of-the-Art Papers, Research Papers, Technical Notes or Case Studies, showcasing recent innovation in both research and practice related to hydraulic structures for resilient water systems. Contributions are expected to span a broad range of symposium themes, including Dams & Reservoirs, High Dam Hydraulics, Infrastructure Resilience, Modelling Technology and Coastal Defence Structures. Methodological approaches may include theoretical developments, numerical modelling, physical modelling and field investigations. Once the collection is complete, the Guest Editors will prepare an introductory article to contextualise the SAC.

Standards and Number of Contributions
Invited authors will be required to ensure that their manuscripts are substantially extended and sufficiently distinct from their proceeding papers (which are limited to 10 printed pages and published by IAHR) to avoid plagiarism concerns. All submissions will undergo the journal’s standard rigorous peer-review process. Based on the experience of previous successful SACs following ISHS (e.g. ISHS2024 and ISHS2018), the International Scientific Committee of ISHS2026 will identify and invite approximately 30-40 author teams to submit extended versions of their work. This is expected to result in approximately 20 submissions. Should the number of high-quality submissions in ISHS2026 be smaller than in previous symposia, additional experts from the hydraulic structures community may also be invited to contribute. The target is to publish 10-15 peer-reviewed contributions within this SAC.
Timeline
Submission opens: 1st of August 2026
Submision Deadline: 31st of January 2027
The Journal of Hydraulic Research contains scientific and technical material of broader interest in the areas of theoretical, experimental and computational hydraulics and fluid mechanics in various fields of application (rivers, coasts, environment, structures and industrial flows). This may also include results of field studies and interdisciplinary studies. Further included is publication of state-of-the-art papers, information which is suitable for the end-user (design and consultancy) and forum articles. Discussions to papers and technical notes are welcomed. The scope of the Journal covers the fields in which IAHR is active.
