Applications Open for the XII Awards for Sustainable Water Management

Botin Foundation Awards

 Overview

The Water Observatory of the Botín Foundation is inviting applications for the XII Awards for Sustainable Water Management, which recognise innovation and the dissemination of ideas, projects and technologies with proven results for more sustainable water management.

The call is open to creators, researchers, technologists, social entrepreneurs, activists and communicators whose work contributes to sustainable water management.

The Water Observatory of the Botín Foundation recently collaborated with IAHR on the Road to Bari Water & Cities Workshop: “The Future of Water in Cities: Needs and Challenges”, held in Madrid in May 2026 and focused on current and future challenges in urban water management.

This year’s Awards include three categories:

Category A – “M.R. Llamas” Young Talent Award: for projects and initiatives that contribute to sustainable water management in any context or location. Applicants must be under 40 years of age and may apply individually or as the lead representative of a team.

Category B: for projects and initiatives that highlight the value of water in urban environments and strengthen the relationship between citizens and water.

Category C: inspired by the theme of World Water Day 2026, this category recognises projects and initiatives addressing the relationship between women, water and gender equality.

  • The age requirement does not apply to Categories B and C.

  • Each award carries a cash prize of €1,500.

  • The deadline for applications is 31 July 2026.
