Professor Soon Thiam Khu Appointed New Editor-in-Chief of IAHR's Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research (JAWER)
Overview
Professor Soon Thiam Khu has been appointed new Editor-in-Chief of IAHR's Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research (JAWER) replacing Dr. Miguel Ángel Pérez Martín.
Soon-Thiam is a civil engineer and academic whose research interests span urban water supply treatment and distribution, drainage and sewer network design and operations, fluvial and pluvial flood management, sustainable urban drainage system design and management) and AI related (optimisation algorithms development, neural networks, SVM and clustering) areas. His research has attracted funding from the United Kingdom, China, EU funding agencies such as NERC, EPSRC, RCUK, CNRC, FP and Horizon2020. His research work has also attracted attention from the water industry.

It is an honour to step in as the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research. I am grateful to the IAHR Executive Committee for this trust, and I thank Miguel and his previous team for their service.
My deepest gratitude goes to our authors and reviewers - Your research, your rigour, and your generosity keep our field and more importantly, JAWER, moving forward. I am committed to making your experience fairer, faster, and more constructive.
Looking ahead, I want to extend a special welcome to those I believe we have not served well enough: the practitioners in the water industry—engineers, consultants, operators, and policymakers. This journal must speak to you, too. My vision is to bridge the gap between academic research and on-the-ground practice—publishing work that is practically useful and technically sound.
Thus, we can expect shorter, clearer takeaways from future JAWER papers; expect more case studies and field experiences; expect a journal that values impact as much as sound solutions.

The Journal of Applied Water Engineering and Research (JAWER) publishes papers and practical case studies on all aspects of hydro-environment engineering and research. JAWER welcomes applications related to integrated water resources management and hydro-policy and aims for international dissemination of innovative methods that will specifically showcase studies on interfacing technology-based solutions within the hydro-environment and their ecological value and services.
