José Adriasola-Velasco has more than 24 years of experience in hydraulic and hydrologic engineering. His current work position is Lead of Geotechnical and Hydraulic Engineering Services (G&HES) for the Mining & Metals business line at Bechtel. José has been involved in performing and supervising dozens of hydraulic transients analyses for different industrial facilities, including long distance pipelines and liquid distribution networks, both pumped and driven by gravity, conveying water, slurries and other rare liquids, such as milk of lime and liquid caustic soda. José has taught part-time different courses on hydraulic engineering at Universidad de Los Andes (2005-2009) and P. Universidad Católica de Chile (2010-2014, 2021-2022), both in Santiago, Chile. Currently, José is a member of the Hydraulic Engineering Major Committee at P. Universidad Católica de Chile, member of the Transient Flows Working Group, co-opted member of the Education and Professional Development committee, and former co-opted member of the IAHR Hydraulic Structures Committee. José holds a B.Sc. in Civil Engineering, a Major on Hydraulic Engineering and a M.Sc. on same subject (P. Universidad Católica de Chile). In 2013 he was elected a Bechtel Distinguished Technical Specialists, and in 2022 he was named a Bechtel Fellow, the highest technical excellence recognition at Bechtel, in return for his contributions to projects, customers and the civil engineering profession.
