This IAHR Online Training Course explores in depth the physics of shallow mixing layers and interfaces, focusing on the related transport processes that occur both in controlled (canonical) scenarios and in natural environments such as river confluences. Emphasis is placed on how the structure and spatial development of the mixing interface are influenced by factors such as density contrasts between incoming flows, channel bathymetry, confluence angle, and bed roughness.
