Abstract: A horizontally-discharging buoyant jet laden with sediment particles is studied numerically. Flow computation is made with large eddy simulation and Lagrangian modelling of particle movements. The computed results reveal coherent flow structures on the longitudinal mid-vertical plane of the jet and the corresponding particle fall out mechanisms. Particle concentration and fluid velocity information on successive jet cross sections show the effect of buoyancy on the dispersion of the fluid and particle phases.
