Abstract:

The Particle Image Velocimetry is used to characterize “local” and “global” turbulent flow activities in Vertical Slot Fishway (VSF). For two width dimensions of the VSF, we investigate the “manipulation of turbulence” in pools, by installing cylinders inside existing fishways. Eight configurations of VSF are tested. The results show that turbulence quantities can be adapted with the addition of vertical cylinders inside each pool, to further improve the connection between hydraulics and expected fish behaviour.
