Abstract: The present work aims at improving the understanding of the flow along a meandering bend. In particular, the role of the cross-sectional circulation on the longitudinal flow velocity distribution has been investigated. The analysis is based on data measured in a large amplitude meandering laboratory flume. The terms, included in the depth-averaged momentum equations, which express the advective momentum transport by the crosssectional motion and the strength of cross-sectional motion are analyzed and discussed.
